What is the KEKO ecosystem?
KEKO brings together major players and SME's to build a dynamic ecosystem around a smart building platform.
Ecosystem for a smart building platform
There is massive potential for improving building conditions, increasing business performance and minimising the environmental impact of buildings.
To tap in to this potential and create the global standard for smart building platforms, new collaboration between parties is required. That’s why our ecosystem brings together the bright minds of Nokia, Kone, YIT, Caverion, Halton, VTT and Netox. Our work is funded by Business Finland.
What’s different about KEKO?
DESIGN THINKING
We are working together, design sprint by design sprint and use case by use case to create unforeseen solutions based on building data. KEKO integrates design thinking as well as UX and CX based sciences for studying human centric value creation with the smart building environment. Stakeholders in the smart building environment can be individuals, companies, public parties and technologies (i.e. IoT devices).
SME ENGAGEMENT
Right from the start, we are planning ways to integrate SME’s into the overall ecosystem. We are looking for talented SMEs and startups from partners’ networks and partner scouting programs. Together, we will co-innovate world class concepts in the smart building context.
THE KEKO PLATFORM
The KEKO ecosystem is piloting a scalable digital platform that supports a versatile offering of services and applications in a site or a building. Not limited to traditional cloud-based IoT platforms, KEKO enables solutions that require massive edge computing and private broadband connectivity.
BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
KEKO aims to create an understanding of the roles, operational models and stakeholder business opportunities of future smart building ecosystems.
KEKO’S IMPACT ON SOCIETY AND INDUSTRIES
We can provide the first mover advantage in creating a business ecosystem that utilizes multiple platforms and technologies in the smart buildings domain. While we hope to provide business growth and jobs for our ecosystem partners and the overall economy, the ecosystem’s service creation enables the tackling of global challenges like emissions reduction, energy consumption and security.
The KEKO Ecosystem will have an impact on the productivity and quality of a building’s life-cycle. It will provide reliable real-time data from equipment, systems and environment for the whole supply-chain and partner network.
With the ecosystem model, both current and new actors can achieve new roles and business opportunities that ensure their global competitiveness in the smart building industry. For the companies involved, KEKO is not only an opportunity to improve current business. It is a platform for new offerings; data driven applications or services in the built environment.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES FROM KEKO
- New platform-based business models for founders and participants
- More comfortable buildings with better experience and services for users
- Improved value and sustainability for building owners
